A prominent grassroots politician in Delta state and a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, High Chief Michael Johnny, has said that he has sacrificed his 2023 Senatorial ambition to enable him to support and work for APC to win the governorship election in the state come 2023.
Johnny, who spoke to newsmen on Saturday in Warri, however, sincerely apologised to his supporters and leaders of the party, who had expressed confidence in him to contest for the Senate seat of Delta South Senatorial District.
The Ijaw APC leader, also urged his supporters particularly in Delta South to accept his decision to drop his Senate ambition, adding that though it was a difficult decision for him, he did so for the best interest of APC in Delta State.
Johnny, a former Chairman of Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, said, “I sacrificed my senate ambition to enable me fully support and work for APC’s victory in 2023. APC winning the coming governorship general elections and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege becoming next Governor of Delta State in 2023, is a project more important than my Senatorial ambition.
“I am very confident that 2023 is for APC to chase PDP out of Government House, Asaba. Luckily, the Delt State APC is presenting a formidable, most qualified, competent and acceptable governorship candidate, Senator Omo-Agege. We have a popular Governorship candidate, and we have the electorates on our side. We shall win the governorship election.”
Johnny, who was a former APC senatorial aspirant for Delta South in the 2019 general elections, urged APC family in Delta to remain strong and united, noting that the votes must count in 2023 in favour of APC and Omo-Agege.
