Major stakeholders and political gladiators in Ughelli South Constituency of Delta State have thrown their weight behind the ambition of Olorogun Samson Gordons Okomitie to represent the constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly come 2023.

The political bigwigs and their supporters made known their total support for Olorogun Okomitie on Friday, February 4, 2022, when they thronged the Ekakpamre Primary School, Ekakpamre in Ughelli South Local Government Area for his official declaration to contest the constituency seat in the State House Assembly.

NewsNet Nigeria gathered that in 2019 when Olorogun Okomitie first vied for the position he lost with just two delegate votes in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primary to the incumbent member representing the constituency, Hon Reuben Izeze.

The mammoth crowd of supporters that trooped to the Ekakpamre Primary School, Ekakpamre, to witness the official declaration of Olorogun Okomitie, were drawn from the eleven wards of Ughelli South.

Also visibly on ground to lend their support were groups such as SAMGO Political Movement, Urhobo Youths In Politics, Delta Political Movement, Okomitie Bell Ringers, Dynamic Women In Politics and Ughelli South Entertainers.

Among political from Ughelli South who spoke glowingly about Olorogun Okomitie were one-time PDP chairman in Ughelli South, Chief Vincent Oduaran and Chief Joe Unuame, from the Ewu/Olomu axis and Chief Eric Sajine who spoke for the people of Ughievwen South axis.

Oduaran, Unuame, Sajine and others unequivocally stated that the people of Ughelli South have resolved to throw their full weight behind the political ambition of Olorogun Gordons Okomitie to represent the constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly come 2023.

The political bigwigs in Ughelli South described Olorogun Gordons Okomitie as a unifying force who would no doubt turn around the political fortunes of the people of Ughelli South if given the opportunity.

They also reminded all of the existing peaceful power rotation arrangement in the local government area and appealed to those with interest from other axes not to scuttle the gentleman political arrangement.

Oduaran said, “Ughelli South is a peace-loving local government and anybody who wants to jeopardise that peace at least the leaders, elders, youths and everybody will not be happy with such person.

“There are ways we do our things. Today, I am standing here from Ewu Kingdom means that what Chief Gordons Okomitie is doing is supported by the Ewu axis.

“Ughelli South has two constituencies or two political blocs: Ughievwen axis and Ewu/Olomu axis. Ewu/Olomu axis have ruled for sixteen years in the House. Ewu took it eight years, then Olomu took it eight years, that is sixteen years.

“Now, it is in Block ‘A’ that is Ughievwen axis. Someone is there now running for eight years who is our brother and he is going to hand over to Gordons Okomitie to complete the eight years of Ughievwen axis to make it sixteen years of Ughievwen. Thereafter, it will move back to Ewu/Olomu.

“Anybody who does not understand this is trying to cause confusion in the local government.”

For his part, Chief Unuame said, “I have been a political marketer in the system. I know in those days I use to have difficult products to market but today I have a good product. So, I am not going to talk too much.

“Gordons Okomitie is a child of a Lion and Ughievwen you are lucky. I am happy with the crowd I am seeing here today. I am happy to see fellow old politicians who crawled into their shells but because they heard of Okomitie they’ve decided to come out to do what they know how best to do.

“Ughievwen South relax yourselves, Ughievwen North it is now your turn.”

Olorogun Okomitie, a civil engineer graduate who was elated with the overwhelming show of support tagged his vision and mission to represent the people of Ughelli South Constituency as ‘Grace Mission’.

“A mission to rebuild the fallen walls of Ughelli South, reunite the people for a greater Ughelli South,” said the Ekakpamre born philanthropist.

He noted that the constituency has suffered from poor representation in the past assuring that if given the opportunity he would make a big difference.

The business mogul while soliciting the support of the people of Ughelli South in order for him to actualise his political dream, Olorogun Okomitie promised to effect the desired change the people of Ughelli South have been craving for.

He said, “I believe if you people support me to the House of Assembly, I will do more of what I have been doing before.

“In my time, it will be a politics of ‘Monkey work, Monkey chop’, not a politics of ‘Monkey work, Baboon chop’.

“I want to assure the people of Ughelli South that am available. I will bring back the dividends of democracy.”

Earlier during the declaration ceremony, the Ughelli South Local Government PDP Chairman, Hon Michael Oshetigho and the Ekakpamre Ward 7 chairman, Apostle Apoel Umukoro, received a large number of All Progressives Congress, APC, decampees led by the Ekakpamre Ward 7 APC chairman, Chief Pius Onakpoma Ughavwan to the PDP.

They hailed the APC decampees for their decision to join forces with the ruling party in the state adding that PDP in Ughelli South is one big united family.

The high point of the declaration was the burning of the broom of the decampees which is the symbol of the APC.
