Police recue 63-year-old kidnap victim in Delta

Men of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a 63-year-old woman of Ughell town five days after she was kidnapped.

The victim (name withheld) who was rescued on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Irri-Aviara community in Isoko South Local Government Area was kidnapped on Friday, November 26, 2021, at Olori road Ughelli on her way home.

A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe said information leading to the rescue of the woman was received from a motorcyclist who saw her with two boys armed with machetes in an isolated place along Irri-Aviara community road and suspected them to be kidnappers.

According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Oleh Division, SP Paul Oboware in a swift response mobilised and led Police patrol teams in a combined effort with Irri vigilante to cordon the surrounding bushes.

The hoodlums on sighting the police abandoned the woman and escaped into the bush.

Meanwhile, police operatives and vigilantes from Oleh Division on Tuesday, December 2, 2021, foiled an attempt by some hoodlums operating in a white Toyota Hilux without a registration number to kidnap a man (name withheld) who recently returned from Europe at around Irri roundabout Oleh.

The operation also spearheaded by the DPO Oleh Division led to the arrest of one of the suspects, Davidson Odigho aged 26 years of Irri community in Oleh, who confessed to being part of the gang that kidnapped the 63-year-old woman on 30/11/2021 and abandoned her when they noticed that the police were closing in on them.

The suspect led police operatives to his house where one Ak 47 rifle, 19 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one magazine, one pump action gun and twenty-six live cartridges concealed in a sack bag and buried in the compound were recovered.
