The Super Eagles of Nigeria will no longer proceed with their planned international friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia in the United States next month, a source close to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed.
The NFF had earlier announced that the Eagles would face Venezuela on November 14 at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston and Colombia on November 18 at Citi Field Stadium in New York.
However, following Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Benin Republic that secured their late qualification for the play-offs, the federation has opted to cancel the friendlies to allow the team concentrate fully on the decisive qualification fixtures.
The play-offs will feature Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo DR, and Gabon in a one-legged, two-semi-final format.
Nigeria, the highest-ranked team among the quartet, will take on Gabon, while Cameroon face Congo DR.
Winners of both ties will clash in a final match, with the eventual champion advancing to represent Africa in the intercontinental play-offs.
