Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Obi emphasised that the coalition’s decision to unite under the ADC followed “deep reflection” on Nigeria’s worsening situation and the urgent need for competent and compassionate leadership.

“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership,” Obi said.

The coalition—comprising prominent opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and others—formally adopted the ADC on Wednesday at an event held at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

At the unveiling, David Mark was named interim National Chairman, while Rauf Aregbesola was appointed interim National Secretary.

Obi stressed that collective effort is vital to bring about real change in Nigeria:

“No one group can change Nigeria alone. To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls.”

The coalition aims to offer a united front against the APC-led government and provide Nigerians with a credible alternative in 2027.
