Christians have been urged to support the good gesture of the government in the opening of camps for the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, affected by the ravaging flood in some parts of Nigeria.

The Zonal Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Shalom Zone, under Delta Province 3, Asaba in Delta State, Pastor Greg Sifo, stated this when he led other members of the church to visit the IDP camp at Oneh Primary School cable point in Asaba.

Pastor Sifo said they came to identify with the individuals in the camp on the havoc caused by the flood in their various communities saying it is a difficult situation to be displaced from your home and your belongings scattered over.

The Zonal Pastor noted that the makeshift home even though not fully comfortable for the displaced persons, has given them a sense of belonging and succour to regain balance on our to attend life’s natural challenges.

He revealed that the flood has led to the loss of businesses, farmland, loved ones and so many valuable items that could not be quantified.

He thanked the government of Delta State for the support they have rendered so far in providing food, healthcare facilities and other amenities to the various camps spread across the state to cushion the effects on the affected people.

The clergy encouraged Christians and well-spirited individuals in the society to support the good gesture of the government in providing solace to victims affected by the flood.

Pastor Sifo on behalf of the church provided food items and clothing materials among others to the camp.

Responding, the Camp commandant, Mr Eugene Onwenonye, thanked the Church for the wonderful gesture that would impact positively the lives of more than 3,200 displaced persons in the camp.

Onwenonye assured them that the items will be judiciously used for the benefit of those in the camp.
