The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has paid glowing tributes to former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase, describing him as a “rare gem” whose humility, compassion, and service to humanity left indelible footprints.
PANDEF’s delegation, led by Ambassador Godknows Igali, joined dignitaries and mourners in Benin City for the two-day funeral rites, which included a vigil mass on October 2, 2025, and a requiem mass on October 3, both held at St. Paul Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin.
PANDEF National Publicity Secretary, Chief (Sir) Dr Obiuwevbi Ominimini, in a statement Friday night, said Ambassador Igali, visibly moved to tears, lamented Arase’s passing, noting that the late IGP was still greatly needed by society.
“Given the good qualities of IGP Solomon Arase, who was a man of humility despite his position, he was too quick to depart us. He was well-loved because he devoted his life to helping humanity. Men like him are too few,” Igali said.
He recalled Arase’s philanthropic gestures, including his annual support to orphanages, particularly during his birthdays, describing his humanitarian service as “immeasurable.”
Beyond his national service as IGP, the late Arase was also deeply rooted in his community, serving as the Edo State chairman of PANDEF and founding president of the Benin Consultative Forum.
His dual commitment to national duty and regional development, Igali said, reflected his love for both Nigeria and the Niger Delta.
The burial events were attended by PANDEF’s national executives, state chairmen, and Edo State chapter officials, alongside an impressive array of dignitaries.
According to PANDEF, the turnout underscored Arase’s strong connections across all levels of society.
“We shall continue to miss late Solomon Arase as a big vacuum has been created due to his death,” Igali added, expressing confidence that Arase’s life of service mirrored the teachings of Christ and praying for his eternal rest.
