OBOREVWORI’S VICTORY AFFIRMED BY GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION PETITION TRIBUNAL: AN ANALYSIS

By Fidelis Chimokwu

Right from the word “Go,” it was absolutely clear that Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori was on the right trajectory in the race for the seat of the Governor of Delta State. His sweeping victory at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP primaries was more than enough indication that the 2023 race was up for grabs by His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his political party.

This piece is anchored on a Solid Rock of Governor Sheriff’s Divine Mandate to guide Delta State. Therefore the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which sat in Asaba on Friday, September 29, 2023, affirmed his victory. Call it a “confirmation or ratification of the truth or validity of a prior judgment, decision, etc….”the assertion that something exists or is true.” {Dictionary.com}. In this case the INEC declaration of His Excellency Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the duly elected Chief Executive of Delta State.

Power belongs to God. He gives it freely to whoever HE pleases. It’s on this premise that I anchor this piece of my personal thoughts put together in this eulogy of thanksgiving to the Almighty God for delivering on his promise of choosing The Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori as the Governor of Delta State.

“If you love your work, you’ll be out there every day trying to do it the best you possibly can, and pretty soon everybody around will catch the passion from you like a fever.” Sam Walton may not have been in the prophetic business but his quote above aptly fits Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State whose ability to effectively communicate, command and mobilize the loyalty of his friends, colleagues, the entire party structure and campaign council of the Peoples Democratic Party, during his well-focused and energy-sapping campaigns. It’s not by power but by the special Grace of the Almighty God that his work searched him out.

Sheriff Oborevwori truly marshalled the fields of Delta State throughout the campaigns at all levels. This true story certainly counted in his favour because of the fact that the people had the opportunity to access and assess him across the state.

On the contrary, the former Deputy Senate President, Barrister Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC never campaigned. Instead, he was busy peddling and propagating unfounded conspiracy theories and fabrication and unsubstantiated falsehoods against the enviable Governor Emeritus, His Excellency, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, a man of Excellence and Ekwueme Gburugburu. Omo-Agege failed in many ways.

Then, he decided to go through shortcuts by recruiting spent forces from within and other political parties and that worsened his case and an armageddon of confusion set in, because he has always relied on some so-called ‘powerful figures’ to aid his ambition of being a governor effortlessly.

For Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi and Mr Ken Pela, I really believe they should simply eat their sentiments. For Barrister Omo-Agege who won four Local Governments, I laugh because he only trusted men, chariots and war horses, not God. He ran a campaign just for the fun of it and never covered the grounds as the Governor did. The support garnered by His Excellency Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborewori were unflinching. The records are there.

Omo-Agege’s use and discard management style alienated him further from his political associates et ce terra. Now his political calculations have failed him woefully once again. Where’s his next bus stop? Appeal court? He should be better advised to sheath his blunted legal sword.

As I have maintained in my piece, “Many a time success is driven by tangible realities and not the ephemerals of emotional captivity.” It is far more honourable to be chosen by God’s counsel and not by man’s wisdom and knowledge.

Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has been chosen because he is a man after God’s heart. Just like David, he defeated Goliath, and his army of the Philistines and like Daniel, the lions meant to devour him were gagged by the power of the Almighty God.

Those who still believe in the conspiracy theories of the past should be contented with the truth “Be not wise in thine own eyes: Fear the LORD, and depart from evil: Prov 3:7. To the Almighty God alone be all the Glory! Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is the Executive Governor of Delta State. His positive affirmation is Right and Laudable. Welcome to the M.O.R.E. Agenda for all Deltans.
