Gov Oborevwori And The Finger Of God, Glorious One Year In Office

By Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe

Today, His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, JP, the First family of Delta, together with the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme and his family, former governors, senior government officials, elected representatives at all levels under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, political appointees across board, and Deltans from all walk of life converged at the Living Faith Church to celebrate the exemplary leadership of the governor, and to thank God for his first anniversary as governor of the state.

Too many things to thank God for; from the pre and post-election 38 cases victories at the Courts below to the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the successful flag-off and ongoing construction of three mega flyovers and pedestrian bridges at DSC roundabout, PTI junction and Enerhen junction, massive construction of the Ughelli-Asaba dual roads projects, completion of Emevor-Orogun road, payment of local government pensions, completion of the State High Court complex and several roads projects across the three senatorial districts.

Worthy of mention is the prudent management of state resources by Governor Oborevwori. His consummate leadership style, integrity and dogged capacity to govern the state effectively within the last year amaze his detractors, as well as his strict fiscal discipline devoid of wasteful spending and frivolous allocations of state resources.

In one single year of monumental achievements in infrastructure development across the state, governor Oborevwori did not borrow one Kobo from any bank or financial institution in Nigeria, or anywhere in the world.

It is not unlikely that debt servicing is also part of his renewed efforts to make Delta State debt-free and return her to a front-line vibrant economy that would compete favourably with Lagos State in terms of Gross Domestic Product, GDP. Delta State is currently number 5 in GDP ranking, while Lagos retained number one in Nigeria.

Governor Oborevwori’s God-given wisdom and superlative foresight are inestimable, judging from his mesmerizing charisma and uncommon humility which had endeared him to the hearts of Deltans across board.

The governor’s vision for all sectors of the state economy is unarguably visible and commendable, yielding positive results, especially in the area of human capacity development, job and wealth creation for our teeming youths, women and girl children.

A few days ago, cheques worth several millions of Naira were presented to hardworking artisans and some owners of small-scale businesses drawn from the three senatorial districts across the state, under the MORE agenda of this administration via the State Ministry of Humanitarian Services.

Payment of pensioners is ongoing. Governor Oborevwori during his electioneering campaigns assured Deltans that upon assumption of office, the backlog of pension funds shall be paid within a reasonable time frame. He has kept to his words and promises. Very soon, pension payment arrears shall be a thing of the past in Delta State, relegated to the dustbin of history.

Thousands of teachers and other categories of skilled and unskilled workers have been recruited with one of Governor Oborevwori’s good governance in Delta State. 2022/2023 Students Bursary is fully paid, and payment of 2023/2024 is in the pipeline and may soon commence.

With the Flagg off of the health scheme for Delta State students in higher institutions in Nigeria, Governor Oborevwori scored another FIRST, as no state in Nigeria has been able to achieve this feat. Of a Truth, the MORE Agenda is Advancing Delta in all ramifications. Bravo to the people governor of Delta State.

The enviable performances of Governor Oborevwori within one year in office have rekindled the hope and expectations of Deltans, with the full assurance that the remaining three years of his first tenure shall be more prosperous, eventful and progressive.

Mega infrastructure projects are on the drawing board across the state, including the master plan for Warri Stadium world-class sports facility, such that his future encounter with political rivals and eligible voters in 2027 shall be a smooth walkover at the polls, with foreseeable landslide victory in 25 local government areas of the state.

Bravo to our street credibility governor with excessive local content, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and his loyal deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme on the occasion of their first anniversary as governor and deputy governor of Delta State.

I am proud to be associated with the superlative and enviable performances of Governor Oborevwori, the Ukodo of Okpe Kingdom.

Congratulations to all Deltans, see you at the Praise and Worship Night scheduled to take place at the Event Centre Asaba on May 29, 2024.

To God be the Glory.
