Omo-Agege’s Distorted Legacy

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s criticism of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his administration is both misleading and ironic, considering his track record. Having served as a Senator and later as Deputy Senate President under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Omo-Agege contributed to the very failures he now seeks to project onto others. Let us not forget that during his time in office, he played a key role in the 2018 mace theft incident, effectively stalling critical debates that could have impeached then-President Buhari. His role in shielding a government that brought Nigeria into multiple recessions is well-documented.

A Failure of Leadership in APC

While Omo-Agege speaks of holding Governor Sheriff accountable, we must recall that under the APC from 2015 to 2023, Nigeria experienced two major recessions—in 2016 and 2020. As Deputy Senate President during this period, Omo-Agege failed to bring any solutions to the table. His inability to grasp governance is evident, as the country grappled with economic collapse, unprecedented inflation, and mounting insecurity during his tenure.

Rejection at the Polls

Deltans made their voices clear in the 2023 gubernatorial election when they rejected Omo-Agege’s governorship bid. Despite being imposed on the APC machinery, his leadership failed to inspire confidence, resulting in a loss that saw him win only 4 out of 25 local governments. This defeat was not just a rejection by the opposition, but a rejection from within his own party, with many APC members working against him. This speaks volumes about the dysfunction within APC under his leadership.

The APC’s Economic Destruction

Omo-Agege’s attempt to shift focus from the APC’s economic failures is futile. Between 2015 and 2023, under Buhari, Nigeria’s economy deteriorated drastically, shrinking from $510 billion to $262 billion. Inflation now stands at over 32%, and unemployment is at a staggering 70%. Under Tinubu, the situation has only worsened, with businesses fleeing the country and the naira plunging in value. Omo-Agege’s complicity in this decline cannot be overstated.

APC’s Internal Conflicts and Disorganization

The APC in Delta State remains a fractured party, filled with discontented members and disarray. It has become a party of opportunists, with remnants of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) jumping ship only to add to the chaos. The lack of internal coherence and constant infighting has left the APC without a clear direction, making any promises for a stronger future in 2027 laughable.

Governor Oborevwori’s Strategic Projects

Omo-Agege’s criticism of Governor Oborevwori’s flyover projects in Delta State reveals his ignorance of governance and budgeting. Public financial administration involves prioritizing various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security. The bridges Governor Oborevwori is building are not just physical structures; they are part of a broader development agenda that includes creating jobs, improving transportation, and enhancing the overall quality of life for Deltans. Criticizing these projects only shows that Omo-Agege lacks vision and a genuine commitment to progress.

APC Lack of Integrity

Omo-Agege’s claims about Governor Sheriff’s administration ring hollow, especially when we consider how he ran his campaign and leadership. His tenure as Deputy Senate President showed that he prioritizes personal gain over public service, and Deltans are well aware of this. His governance, if given the chance, would have been focused solely on his hometown of Orogun, benefiting only his inner circle. Governor Sheriff, on the other hand, is committed to equitable development across the state.

Delta Bright Future Under Governor Oborevwori

Governor Sheriff’s projects are not just promises on paper—they are tangible, visible, and impactful. From road infrastructure to social services, his administration is dedicated to fulfilling the “More Agenda” for Deltans. This bold leadership and clear vision are why the APC is now rattled, resorting to baseless criticism to distract from their own failures.

A Proven Track Record: While Omo-Agege and the APC attempt to discredit Governor Sheriff, it is important to note that the PDP in Delta State has a track record of delivering for the people. From previous administrations to the current ones, the PDP has consistently focused on development and the well-being of Deltans. Under Governor Sheriff’s leadership, this legacy will only grow stronger, and Deltans can be assured that the state’s resources are being utilized for their benefit, not squandered on personal ambitions.

Delta Deserves Better than APC’s Broken Record

Deltans deserve leaders who prioritize their well-being and development. Omo-Agege and the APC, with their history of economic mismanagement and internal conflicts, have shown that they are not up to the task. Governor Oborevwori’s administration, on the other hand, is delivering on its promises and will continue to do so. Deltans can trust that their state is in capable hands and that the progress already being made will only accelerate as we move forward. The future is bright and it will not be dictated by those who have already failed the people.
