The Delta State Government on Tuesday inaugurated a new cluster of housing units and essential infrastructure in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area, marking a decisive step in the community’s recovery after its destruction in March 2024 following the killing of 17 soldiers.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, described the commissioning as a turning point for displaced residents.
He said the rebuilt settlement symbolizes renewal and reflects the administration’s commitment to restoration, peace, and dignity under the MORE Agenda.
Oborevwori urged the people of Okuama to embrace unity and protect the facilities provided.
He commended contractors, security agencies, the Ministry of Housing, Ughelli South Local Government Council, and the community for their roles in actualizing the project.
The resettlement centre, constructed by the Ughelli South Local Government Council, includes 40 room spaces, two blocks of 20 toilets and bathrooms, a solar-powered water system, and a paved, roofed walkway linking all structures.
The state government also constructed a primary school, secondary school, and a primary health centre.
Community representatives thanked the governor for intervening after the destruction, pledging their support for peace and for his administration.
