Egbema communities in Delta threaten protest against Chevron over non-implementation of GMOU

The Egbema Off-Shore Communities of Delta State has issued a 14-day ultimatum to Chevron Nigeria Limited and Fidelity bank Plc, to release the Egbema Off-shore Communities funds to enable them to execute developmental projects, award scholarship to her indigenes and empower youths and women.

The Egbema off-shore Communities of Delta State in an official resolution signed by its President, Comrade Mike JK Tiemo and eleven others said the funds should be released with immediate effect in order for the communities to address vital demands without any further hesitation or delay as a result of the non-implementation of GMOU since 2008 till date.

They also demanded the Award of scholarship to their indigenous students with the money in their jointly controlled   Fidelity bank account, water resources  Effurun, which include Gbaramatu and Ogulagha Communities and the funds should be released within two weeks to address the scholarship issues.

The Egbema Offshore Communities demanded in strong terms that they need the empowerment of fifty indigenes and stakeholders with the sum of five million naira  each for Agro business and other trade with the money in the bank and  Chevron Nigeria limited treasury or account for years within two weeks as aforementioned

The leaders of Egbema Offshore Communities also demanded two management positions, five superintendents,  engagement of indigenes from Egbema Off Shore Communities or kingdom in respect of the Company offshore operations.

They added that thirty graduates should be employed as direct staff to Chevron Nigeria Limited from Egbema Off Shore Communities.

The leaders of Egbema Offshore Communities emphasized that if the demands are not looked into within 14 days, they will have no other option but to organise a massive protest against the company.

They however appealed to the Federal and State Governments as well as relevant authorities to wade into the issues with a view to resolving them.
