Dangote refinery may have begun production according to a former commissioner in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe.
Igbokwe in a post on his Facebook timeline on the development said he noticed flames from the site of the refinery on Sunday, adding that it was an indication that production has started at the facility.
He added that he was quite sure production has started at the refinery because he once served as an intern at a refinery and the flame is a pointer to the fact that production has commenced.
“At the Lekki trade free zone Lagos today and noticed that Dangote refinery may have started production and the flame is the sign.
“I am a mechanical engineer. I have also worked in Warri Refinery as an intern. The flame is a sign of production,” Igbokwe clarified.
Dangote refinery is a 650,000 barrels per day (BPD) integrated refinery and petrochemical project under construction in the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos, Nigeria.
It is expected to be Africa’s biggest oil refinery and the world’s biggest single-train facility, upon completion in 2020.
The refinery is also expected to produce 10.4 million tonnes (Mt) of gasoline, 4.6Mt of diesel, and 4Mt of jet fuel per year.
