After months of speculations, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has announced his defection from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressive Congress, APC.
The State Commissioner for Works (Rural, Public Enlightenment), Mr Charles Aniagwu, broke the news at a press briefing on Wednesday at Government House, Asaba.
Aniagwu said the unanimous decision, which was taken after an enlarged stakeholders meeting, was for the overall interest of the state.
Governor Oborevwori, who is expected to formally make a public appearance and pronouncement of his defection on Monday, April 28, 2025, is among four PDP governors being rumoured to defect to APC as part of a strategy to secure a second tenure in office come 2027.
