Despite the subsisting judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja, declaring Olorogun David Edevbie as the lawful and authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2023 general elections, embattled Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday attended a crucial meeting called by the national working committee for the party’s governorship candidates.

In a video posted on Facebook which was sighted by this medium, Oborevwori beamed with smiles as he took turns to introduce himself as the PDP governorship candidate for Delta State before the meeting went into a closed-door session at the NEC Hall, Wadata Plaza, Abuja FCT.

Oborevwori’s attendance at the meeting presided over by PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu has however been criticised by some stakeholders of the party in the state.

Those who spoke with NewsNet Nigeria on condition of anonymity blamed the party’s national leadership for allowing Oborevwori to be part of the meeting considering the fact there is no stay of execution on July 7, 2022, judgment by Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Abuja High Court disqualifying Oborevwori as the governorship candidate of PDP in Delta state.

They described Oborevwori’s attendance and the recognition accorded him as mere grandstanding.

Recall that Oborevwori and the PDP in rejecting the judgement of the Federal High Court filed an appeal at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.

Justice Peter Ige, leading a three-member panel of the appellate court on August 8, 2022, fixed August 19, 2022, as the date for a proper hearing of the appeal case.

At the resumed hearing on August 19, the appeal panel reserved judgment to a later date after all counsels adopted their arguments.

The panel is expected to communicate the date for judgement to all parties involved in the case before September 5.
