Numbers to call to report abuses by policemen in Delta unveiled

The Delta State Police Command has unveiled phone numbers that members of the public can call to report cases of human rights abuse or any other infractions by Policemen of the Command.

A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, said the PPRO’s Office can be contacted through the following numbers +234 915 557 0008, +234 915 557 0007 and +234 902 907 0037.

While that of the Command Control Room can be reached on +234 803 668 4974.

The Command in the statement clarified that the video making the rounds on various social media handles, which captured policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Command assaulting a young man along the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway, occurred sometime in the month of August 2021.

According to the statement, “immediately it was brought to the knowledge of the Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc+ directed the incident be looked into which has since been done and the erring Policemen indeed found guilty of assault and were subjected to internal disciplinary mechanism after which they were adequately sanctioned.

“The CP while condemning the malfeasance conduct of the officers also urges members of the public to remain calm and assured of the Command’s commitment in dealing with any officer who disregards the human right of any person.”
