NUJ Information Field, Ughelli Correspondents’ Chapels get new executives

Newly elected executives of Delta NUJ Information Field Chapel and Ughelli Correspondent Chapel, being sworn into office by Comrade Felix Ekwu, the state Assistant Secretary of the Union.

Comrade Charles Ojefia on Friday, August 19, 2022, emerged as the new chairman of Information Field Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ), Delta State Council.

Ojefia polled 17 votes out of a total of 32 votes cast by accredited members of the Chapel to defeat his only challenger, Comrade Ebiseri Goldpin, who scored 15 votes.

Other contestants for the remaining six positions were returned unopposed at the election which was held at the Ughelli Field Office of the state Ministry of Information.

The state Vice Chairman of Delta NUJ, Comrade Ogono, who stood in for the state chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, led the state Assistant Secretary, Comrade Felix Ekwu and the Auditor, Comrade Celestine Afokoba, to conduct the Chapel election.

After the election, oathing taking and inauguration of the Comrade Ojefia-led executive, Comrade Ogono commended the Information Field Chapel of the union in the state for conducting a free and credible election in the chapel.

He charged the new executive to live up to their oath of office and ensure they united their members by carrying them along in the affairs of the union.

While stressing that as one family there was no winner and no loser in the election, Comrade Ogon urged members of the Chapel to support the newly elected executive towards the realisation of set goals.

In his remarks, the newly elected Chairman of the Information Field Chapel, Comrade Charles Ojefia, thanked all for a successful election, specifically for finding him worthy to lead the chapel.

He called for the support of all for the task ahead, assuring that he would lead by example, just as he said his leadership would be inclusive.

Comrade Ojefia also thanked the credentials screening committee for a job well done and the immediate past executives for building the foundation for a stronger chapel of the union.

He leads six other members of the executive for a three-year tenure comprising Comrade Kesiena Catherine Macaulay-Egajivwie (Vice Chairman), Comrade Violet Elohor Foghola (Secretary), Comrade Omenogor Ifeanyi (Assistant Secretary), Comrade Diana Oluwole (Treasurer), Comrade Rachel Ogaga (Financial Secretary) and Comrade Ogowewo Samson (Auditor).

Similarly, on the day, the Delta NUJ three-man delegation led by the state Vice Chairman, Comrade Salvation Ogono inaugurated the new executive of the Ughelli Correspondent Chapel, which also has a three mandate.

Those inaugurated included Comrade Sunday Apah (Chairman), Comrade Kparobor Eghwubare (Vice Chairman), Comrade Hezekiah Ovedhe (Secretary) Comrade Ghenero Efenure (Assistant Secretary), Comrade Omamuzo Efidhere (Treasurer), Comrade Monica Ogbaudu (Financial Secretary) and Comrade Godwin Ukane (Auditor).

The chairman of the Credentials Committee of the Chapel, Comrade Moses Omovevah, told the delegation among other things that all the inaugurated executive members of the Chapel were returned unopposed.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated Chairman, Comrade Apah, on behalf of others, thanked members for their support.

He promised to operate an open-door system of administration where every member would be carried along.

Comrade Apah solicited the continued support of members to enable his executive to take the Chapel to greater heights.

High points of the event were the formal dissolution of the immediate past Comrade Sunday Apah-led executive committee and the inauguration of the new committee by the state Assistant Secretary of the Union, Comrade Felix Ekwu.

In his keynote address, Comrade Ogono, Vice Chairman of the Council, congratulated the inaugurated executive of the Chapel urging them to carry every member along.
