No curfew in Sapele – Police

Delta State Police Command says there is no curfew in Sapele Local Government Area of the state following recent cult-related deaths.

Prominent victims of the recent killings in the ancient town of Sapele a week ago were the deputy leader of the legislative arm of Warri North Local Government, Bigha Grikpa, and three others.

Grikpa it was gathered was murdered in the Mission Road area of the town and was later rumoured to be a victim of mistaken identity.

Sapele town in the last two years has been rocked with bloody cult clashes which claimed the lives of promising young men in the area during the 2022 yuletide.

Following the heightening tension from the killings a rumour emerged that a curfew has been imposed thereby raising serious concerns about efforts by relevant security agencies to arrest the situation.

The veracity of the imposed curfew has however been debunked by the police in Delta.

In a terse message to NewsNet Nigeria on Thursday night, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe said, “There is no curfew in Sapele LGA, kindly ignore the rumours making rounds pls.”

In a phone chat with NewsNet Nigeria, the police image-maker urged people of the area to go about their lawful duties without fear of intimidation and harassment.
