The Niger-Delta Peace Keeping Volunteer Front which aims at rescuing expatriates kidnapped in the Niger-Delta region has elected new executives to pilot the affairs of the group.

The group which elected Hon Kurata Akasa, as President for the next three years assured expatriates working in the region of their safety.

Others elected to run the affairs of the group were Hon Engema Jumbo, Secretary-General, Hon. Tommien Kelekumor, Zonal Coordinator and Mr Benjamin Kurumah, Ondo State Coordinator.

The outgone President of the group, Engr. Lawrence Lokiri said the group which was formed in 2006 has contributed immensely to the security of the region.

Lokiri disclosed that the pioneer President, Hon. Tolu Amatu and few others formed the group in view of the insecurity in the region with its attendants’ negative effects.

He said, “We have in the course of our operations rescued kidnapped NigerCat and Setraco expatriates and also rescued the mother of the former governor of Bayelsa, Seriake Dickson when she was kidnapped in collaboration with other security agents without ransom, and this was what brought amnesty today.”

On his part, the pioneer president, Hon. Tolu Amatu applauded the successes recorded by the group so far expressing gratitude to the military and other security agents for their supports.

Amatu noted that it was the confidence and trust they had that made them embrace the group wholeheartedly.

The newly elected president, Hon Kurata Akassa while commending his predecessor and other past presidents of the group for their commitments, assured all multinational oil companies of safety.

He urged them to relocate to the Niger Delta as peace has returned to the region pledging the readiness of the new executive to improve on the activities of the group.

Akassa said the group has competent and capable coordinators and members across the nine Niger Delta states.

He also said that the leadership of the group rotates among the nine states of the Niger Delta and is registered and known to all governors and security agents in the region.
