Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has debunked rumors that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is indisposed, and an acting Chief of Army Staff has been appointed in his stead.
The Military also asked Nigerians to stop instigating the Military for a regime change stating that such actions are treasonable under the Nigerian constitution.
A statement by Brigadier General Tumut Gusau, Director of Defence Information, explained that the Chief of Army Staff is on a well-deserved vacation and is in communication with the Chief of Defence Staff as well as others who give him constant briefing in line with standard military procedures.
The statement asked all those peddling false reports to desist forthwith noting that the Chief of Army Staff will resume work at the end of his leave.
The statement also reaffirmed the constitutional support of the Nigerian Military to the preservation of democracy in Nigeria as well as the government of President Bola Tinubu.
The statement from the Defence Headquarters stems from rumors that an acting Chief of Army Staff has been appointed in the stead of the substantive COAS Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
