Tragedy struck on Thursday afternoon on the busy NPA Expressway by the Army barracks in Effurun, Delta state, when a tanker laden with fuel somersaulted and fell on scores of students believed to be from the Army Day Secondary School, Effurun, that were by the roadside after closing.
As at the time of this report, six deaths have been confirmed with others still trapped under the tanker while men of the state fire service were seen trying to forestall a possible outbreak of fire as efforts were on to rescue the trapped students.
The tanker was loaded with 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol when the accident occurred.
