Nigeria’s renowned sports journalist and former Media Officer of El-Kanemi Warriors, Tony Obaseki, is dead.
The newly elected Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State Council, Comrade Micheal Ikeogwu, broke the sad news early Sunday morning.
Newsnet gathered that the versatile sports writer died of complications from a stroke which struck him some months ago.
A family source disclosed that Obaseki died on Sunday morning at an undisclosed hospital in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Chairman, Delta NUJ, Comrade Ikeogwu had recently led some members of the union to Okwagbe community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state where he was receiving treatment for stroke before his death.
Obaseki until his death was a member of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, Warri and former Assistant Sports Editor with National Daily Newspapers.
He was paternally from the Obaseki family of the ancient Benin Kingdom in Edo State and maternally Urhobo from Ovwian in Udu Council Area of Delta State.
