The tangling sledgehammer of President Bola Tinubu has fallen on the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AbdulRasheed Bawa.
Recall that the first to be axed by the President within his fifteen days of assumption of office was the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, who is currently under the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) over sundry allegations bordering on his office.
Tinubu in a statement by the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey approved the indefinite suspension from office of the EFCC boss to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
According to a statement noted that the President’s action is sequel to the “weighty” allegations of abuse of office against Mr Bawa.
The statement read below:
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
“This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.
“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.”
