The House of Representatives has ordered the suspension of Nigeria’s National carrier, also known as Nigeria Air.
Nigeria Air was unveiled a few days before the end of the administration of Muhammad Buhari.
The House Committee on Aviation during an investigative hearing over the launch of the Airline on Tuesday.
The Committee expressed displeasure that despite a court injunction, the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, went ahead to flag off the project.
Several stakeholders from the Aviation Sector who appeared before the Committee accused Senior Ministry Officials of not carrying citizens along
They also accused the Ministry of being allies with Ethiopian Airlines, to sabotage the operations of Local Airlines in the country
Reacting, the Committee expressed shock upon hearing that the unveiled aircraft bearing Nigeria’s colours was actually chartered from Ethiopian Air.
The Lawmakers condemned the disobedience to a subsisting court order, which had sought to halt the project as well as called for caution to avoid ridiculing the Nation’s Aviation Industry
While the amount used to flag off the project remains unclear, the Committee has ordered the suspension of flight operations and prosecute those involved in the controversy.
