Comfort Emmanson, a passenger on an Ibom Air Uyo–Lagos flight, has been charged in court and remanded in Kirikiri correctional facility after allegedly assaulting airline officials.
Tunde Moshood, media adviser to the aviation minister, disclosed the development Monday on X, warning that unruly conduct at Nigerian airports will now attract swifter enforcement action.
According to Ibom Air, the incident began before take-off in Uyo when Emmanson refused to switch off her phone as required by safety procedures.
A fellow passenger turned it off, prompting a heated outburst. On arrival in Lagos, she reportedly confronted and physically attacked the purser involved.
The airline described her actions as a serious safety threat and announced a permanent ban on her from all its flights.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) says more frequent enforcement will target rising cases of disorderly passengers.
