Former Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mohammad Barkindo, is dead.
Barkindo who is the outgoing Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), died hours after being hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday at Aso Rock to herald his exit as OPEC scribe after six years.
The Group Managing Director of now Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, in a post on his official Twitter handle Wednesday morning, “We lost our esteemed Dr Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11pm yesterday 5th July 2022,” the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, posted on his verified Twitter handle Wednesday morning.
“Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly.”
Born April 20, 1959, Barkindo who passed on at the age of 63 was GMD of the NNPC between 2009 and 2010.
He was appointed OPEC Secretary-General in 2016 and was the fourth Nigerian to assume the position.
