Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Ehigiator Arase has passed away.
Mr Arase reportedly died on Sunday at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.
Neither the Nigeria Police Force nor his family has issued an official statement as of the time of this report.
Born on June 21, 1956, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr Arase studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in 1980, before joining the Nigeria Police Force in 1981.
He later obtained a Law degree from the University of Benin and a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos.
A seasoned intelligence and investigation officer, Mr Arase once headed the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau before his appointment as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police in April 2015.
He retired from service on June 21, 2016, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
In 2023, he was appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), a role he held until his removal by President Bola Tinubu in 2024.
Mr Arase was 69 years old.
