Former General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, has passed on.
The renowned unionist who hails from Ovu town in Agbon Kingdom of Delta State fell sick recently and was admitted at Mount Horeb Hospital, Warri.
NewsNet Nigeria gathered that Kokori’s health deteriorated a week ago and placed on oxygen until he died in the early hours of today Thursday, December 7, 2023.
Personal Assistant to Chief Kokori, Mr Oke Barry, confirmed the passing of the former labour leader, whose 80th birthday is today.
Last month, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori visited the ailing Chief Kokori in the hospital, where he assured that despite their political differences, he would ensure Chief Kokori was given the due attention he deserves as an illustrious elder statesman from the state.
Chief Kokori was famous for his role in the struggle to actualise the June 12, 1993, presidential election, which was annulled by then-military head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida.
He later joined politics, becoming a founding chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
