The Director-General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, WUEDA, Prince Godwin Ejinyere has charged the residents to maintain all government projects executed for their benefit.
Ejinyere gave the charge in Warri while fielding questions from journalists after inspecting some of the Agency’s completed and ongoing projects executed by Levant Construction Limited.
The WUEDA DG said the beneficiaries must understand that they have a duty to sustain the good works that the government has done for them by keeping their environment and the drainages clean at all times.
“Government in its magnanimity has spent a huge amount of money to provide good drainage for you, it is now your responsibility to keep it clean and not dispose of refuse into it or connect your sewage system to it because the Agency will not tolerate such dirty habits,” he warned.
Prince Ejinyere told the people to take advantage of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise to tidy up their environment. “We will also engage in periodic clean-up exercises as an Agency during which period any defaulter shall be sanctioned in line with appropriate environmental laws,” he added.
“I am impressed by what I saw while going round the projects. This shows that a lot has been done by the Govt through the Agency. I am also impressed by what the contractor has done so far but there is still room for improvement,” the DG noted.
Responding, the Area Manager of Levant Construction Ltd, Mr. Ghassan Fadel commended the Director General of WUEDA for the inspection and assured the DG that the job would be rounded off in the next three months.
Some residents of Agaga Layout at First Marine Gate Warri also thanked the Agency for inspecting Govt projects in the area, affirming that the area no longer experiences flooding when it rains. They then promised to maintain and sustain the drainage channels for maximum utility.
