A day after the staff of Shoprite Warri situated in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State shut down the outfit for some hours in protest against a thousand naira as their yearly bonus, the security guards have allegedly taken over sales to meet customers’ demand.
Recall that for some hours on Saturday, January 7, 2023, the main entrance to the Shoprite Warri was under lock and key as part of efforts by the protesting staff to express their disapproval of the N1,000 bonus for the year ending 2022.
Though the outfit was reopened for business hours later on Saturday the management was as of the close of Sunday yet to issue any statement on the worker’s protest and the reason why security guards had to take over sales.
The posture of the management has left many guessing about the possible end to industrial disharmony.
ACTUAL NEWS had earlier Sunday reported that the security guards of Shoprite Warri were seen at the desks of cashiers attending to customers.
The medium gathered that the management allegedly asked the protesting workers to stay at home pending when the issue of their non-payment of the annual bonus was resolved.
Another source alleged that the protesting workers have been laid off by the management for shutting down the outfit on Saturday which left many customers surrendered and infuriated.
NewsNet Nigeria will continue to make effort to get the management’s side of the story so that the public can be the judge on the current sad development in the highly reputable sales outfit.
