Motorists in Effurun have called for the arrest and prosecution of the contractor that handled the rehabilitation of the Effurun Roundabout in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State for doing a shoddy job.

The motorists and other road users on Thursday decried the speed at which some sections of the roundabout have caved in within six months of rehabilitation.

A respondent who passes the roundabout to his place of work told NewsNet Nigeria on condition of anonymity that “Even before the rains started pouring heavily the roundabout had begun to fail. This is the situation in some of the rehabilitated roads in Uvwie and Warri.”

They blamed the frequent failure of the roundabout on the use of substandard materials by contractors and also the failure of the supervising Ministry’s Engineers to insist on job specification.

While decrying the frequent failure of the roundabout and the hardship it has inflicted on road users, they called on the relevant authorities to prosecute the contractors and the engineers who certified the job to serve as a deterrent to others.

The ever-busy roundabout which serves as the gateway to the commercial cities of Effurun and Warri is now in a deplorable condition causing traffic gridlock and loss of man-hour.
