A former member of the Delta State Executive Council, Hon. Samuel Mariere and his faction have been accused of hijacking the delegates’ list of Urevwe community for the election into the Evwreni Clan Improvement Union, (ECIU).
The accusation was made by the President of the Urevwe community of the Evwreni Clan Improvement Union, Prince Sunday Dolor, who distanced himself from the purported meeting of resolving the Urevwe branch of the ECIU with his secretary.
Recall that the election of the President General and other national executive members of the Evwreni Clan Improvement Union, which was earlier scheduled for Saturday, November 18, 2023, was postponed by the Delta State Government following perceived irregularities in the delegates’ list submitted by the communities and branches that make up ECIU and other relevant organs in the Evwreni kingdom.
The kingdom, prior to the initial slated date, witnessed growing tension following an alleged plot by some kingdom leaders to foist new cabinet members on the Olotu R’Ode, Chief Jabin Omoko.
The Olotu R’Ode of Evwreni Kingdom comprises six cabinet members with two members selected from the three communities that make up Evwreni town in the Evwreni kingdom.
Chief Omoko and his secretary, Mr. Elvis Udjuame had a few days prior to the earlier date for the election alleged that the plot by the kingdom leaders was not unconnected to the election to usher in a new national executive council of the Evwreni Clan Improvement Union.
In a phone chat with NewsNet Nigeria on Tuesday, the President, Urevwe community, Prince Sunday Dolor, opined that he should be the one to resolve with the Hon. Samuel Mariere faction of the Urevwe branch of the ECIU.
He alleged that his secretary was invited to the meeting to harmonise the delegates’ list for Urevwe community without his knowledge by the Mariere’s faction and threatened to sign their concocted list.
Prince Dolor insisted that as the President of Urevwe community, he has the authentic list of the delegates’ list from the community for the election into the Evwreni Clan Improvement Union anytime it is rescheduled, which he has submitted to the office of the chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council.
He therefore appealed to the Delta State Government and other relevant authorities to prevail on Samuel Mariere and his cohorts to desist from threatening and intimidating his executive members.
