Delta State Inter-Ministerial Committee Management for the Prof Chike Edozien Secretariat has urged civil servants and other occupants of the secretariat to inculcate good hygiene practices.
State Commissioner for Special Project, Hon. Henry Sakpra, who stated this while speaking on behalf of the committee shortly after routine monitoring of the secretariat, urged workers and visitors to always inculcate good hygiene principles and desist from acts capable of defacing the beauty of the secretariat.
Sakpra said that security report has it that some civil servants brought waste in bags from their homes to dump in the premises, adding that strangers used the complex as a packing slot and proceed on transit for hours or days.
Accompanied by members of the committee comprising the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Engr. Blessing Edewor, the functioning Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources Development, Engr. Emmanuel Odogun and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Mr E. O Aghedo, the state Project Commissioner stressed the need for the committee to ensure that illegal shop owners vacated the premises and took note of abandoned properties defacing the secretariat.
Dr sakpra, however, warned that any unholy attitude would not be tolerated, explaining that culprits would face the full weight of the law just as he stated that every employee would like to be part of an organization with purposeful direction and a conducive environment with good hygiene principles.
While saying that health is wealth and good health would bring optimum productivity, Sakpra enjoined individuals to abstain from dumping refuse in the secretariat which according to him could result in negative health challenges.
He noted that the need for good hygiene cannot be overemphasized adding that Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa ensured that a mini health care centre was built in the secretariat with a strong belief that good health would increase efficiency and reduce absenteeism among civil servants.
The commissioner also appealed to civil servants to see the secretariat as theirs not just for the Government of Delta State alone, adding that it required good maintenance culture from both parties to keep the secretariat clean.
