Delta Assembly approves amendments to succession title, stool, in Uvwie, Ibrede Kingdoms

Delta State House of Assembly has approved amendments of the declaration regulating succession to the title of the traditional ruler of Uvwie kingdom and the stool of Odio-Ologbo of Ibrede kingdom.

The approval was sequel to a resolution by the lawmakers during plenary of the House, presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

The Speaker had at resumed sitting of the House, read a letter by the Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justices, Isaiah Bozimo, requesting consideration of amendments of the declaration regulating succession to the title of the traditional ruler of Uvwie kingdom and the stool of Odio-Ologbo of Ibrede kingdom, respectively.

The request as contained in the letter with reference number DTMJ 6/10127/9 and dated 19th October 2022, was in line with section 7, subsection 4 of the Traditional Rulers Council and Chiefs Law, Cap T2, Laws of Delta State 2008.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justices, in the letter explained that the resolution of the House was needed to ratify the approval of the State Executive Council on the amendments.

The House subsequently approved the two amendments by a resolution as required by the relevant law of the state on such matters.

The motion for the approval was moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Ferguson Onwo, seconded by the Deputy Chief Whip, Solomon Ighrakpata and unanimously adopted.

The House adjourned plenary till Wednesday, November 9, 2022.
