The local government areas campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State on Wednesday began on a sad note following the deaths of a chieftain of the party, Chief Joe Unuame and his driver who were involved in a ghastly car accident on their way to the campaign venue in Patani Local Government Area of the state.
The PDP in Delta which recently concluded its ward-to-ward campaign on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, kick-started its local government area-to-local government area campaign in Patani.
NewsNet Nigeria reliably gathered that the Olomu Kingdom-born politician in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state and his driver were involved in the accident.
A dependable source told NewsNet Nigeria that the black Toyota jeep with which Chief Unuame and his driver were driving in to get to the campaign ground in Patani collided with a tanker after Umeh junction on the Ughelli/Patani axis of the popular East-West road.
While the driver died on the spot according to the source Chief Unuame was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he was confirmed dead by doctors who battled to save his life.
He served Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Special Assistant on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution.
As an astute backer of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State PDP governorship candidate, Chief Joe Unuame, was a member of the Field Operations Committee of the state PDP 2023 campaign.
In 2013, Chief Joe Unuame as Chairman of Warri-based Worldlink Communications Limited was an arrowhead of the Association of Cable Operators of Nigeria, ACON, that “…accused the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, of colluding with foreign broadcast outfits to rip-off the Nigerian economy by not providing a level playing ground between local and foreign competitors,” according to a report by BusinessNews.
