Six students of Delta polytechnics at Otefe-Oghara and Ozoro have lost their lives in auto accidents as they were allegedly celebrating the end of their final year examinations.
According to reports four students of the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area died in a ghastly motor accident along the Otefe-Ovade road on Friday, February 5 while celebrating their final examinations.
A source said: “Four students of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe Oghara had an accident and died immediately after their graduation this morning. Report reaching us that they were very happy and excited because of their graduation”.
The four occupants of the vehicle died on the spot, the source added.
At Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro in Isoko North Local Government Area, two students of the institution and a commercial motorcycle rider also lost their lives in an accident along the busy Ozoro- Asaba expressway few hours after the students’ final graduation examination.
An eyewitness who did not want his name mentioned said the accident occurred in the morning of Thursday when a commercial motorcyclist and a female student he was conveying died as a result of a collision with an oncoming vehicle.
The bike rider was said to be distracted by a group of ‘Yahoo Boys’ who were spraying banknotes from their car, apparently in celebration of their final exam.
The party according to the source, came to a close after the accident which involved the commercial motorcycle and a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle, adding the final year student had just finished her final examination when she met her untimely death.
The source who pleaded anonymity said another lady who brought out herself through the roof of the SUV was flung out of the car and crushed by an oncoming vehicle.
