It was a horrific sight on Tuesday morning in Benin, the Edo State capital when nine passengers of an intra-city commercial bus were crushed to death by a heavy-duty truck.
The incident occurred during morning rush hour along the busy Sapele Road by Ogbelaka Junction.
The sand-conveying truck, which had brake failure, suddenly rammed into the moving commercial bus, fondly called Tuke-Tuke, killing the nine passengers on the spot before hitting another truck towards the Government Reservation Area (GRA).
Bodies of the victims were deposited in a morgue while the injured passengers were rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the nearby Edo Specialist Hospital in Benin.
The accident led to gridlock with many motorists and commuters groaning, forcing many people to trek to their destinations. (THE NATION)
