What looked like a scene in a horror movie took place in Anambra state during the week as ten dogs belonging to a proprietor of a private school in Amokpo, Umuanunwa, Nteje, in Oyi Local Government Area of the state reportedly devoured a two-year-old prospective pupil.
A resident of the village where the tragedy occurred said while the parent of the child was perfecting the documentation and registration of the child, the child wandered off into the school premises and became prey to the killer dogs.
According to the resident, on sighting the baby, the dogs rushed at him and dragged him into their pen, where about 10 of them devoured the two-year-old boy without any school official on hand to rescue him.
Irked by the incident, the vigilante in the community invaded the school compound and shot dead the dogs.
Speaking further on the bizarre incident, he stated that the Nteje community, where the tragedy happened, culturally prohibits rearing of dogs but the UK returnee proprietor was allegedly warned but refused to adhere to the community’s instructions.
The traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Rowland Odegbo and state Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the incident.
The school owner was identified as Chinedu Oka, a UK returnee fondly called Chinedu Okaa London.
Meanwhile, the school has been deserted as patients hurriedly withdrew their children and wards on hearing about the tragic incident. (PUNCH)
