The Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Sunday disclosed that Local Government Council Elections in the state would not hold in January, 2021.

Governor Okowa stated this while speaking during an open-air interdenominational thanksgiving service to mark the re-election of the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorogun Kingsley Esiso held in Sapele.

The governor urged those aspiring for the Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in various local government councils in the state to soft-pedal as the elections are not holding soon, adding that they should not waste their money unnecessarily for electioneering campaigns.

He said the chairmanship and councillorship aspirants are free to go about consultations on their political aspirations, adding that such consultations should be carried out peacefully without heating up the political atmosphere in the state.

The Governor thanked leaders of the party, the youths and women for their sustained support to the party, adding that the thanksgiving was to express profound appreciation to God for all that He has been doing for the leadership and members of the party in the state.

While applauding the state chairman of the PDP for giving thanks to God for his re-election, Governor Okowa appealed to all members of the party to cooperate with the Chief Kingsley Esiso led Executive of the party, to enhance the electoral fortunes of the party in all future elections in the country.

He expressed satisfaction with the high level of peace existing in the party and commended the past and present executives led by Chief Esiso for the high level of sanity in the party

Governor Okowa admonished members of the party to redouble their efforts by working collectively to build a stronger and formidable political party base on unity and love so as to enable the PDP take over the Federal Government in the 2023 general elections in the country.

While urging the State and the Local Government Area as well as the ward Executives of the party to hold regular meetings to strengthen the bond of unity in the party, he called on political appointees to support in the hosting of the party ward meetings.

Speaking during the well-attended thanksgiving service, Chief Kingsley Esiso expressed joy for the overwhelming support of party members who joined him in giving thanks to God for his re-election as the Chairman of the PDP in the state.

Chief Esiso noted that the thanksgiving was to appreciate God for what He has been doing in his life, adding that God has been faithful to him by directing his steps and actions since he emerged as the state chairman of the party in 2016.

The state party Chairman called on party faithful to always remain united.

Earlier in his sermon titled “Understanding The Power Of Thanksgiving,” the Resident Pastor, Living Faith Church, Sapele, Pastor Victor Hill said thanksgiving is glorifying God for his marvellous deeds.

Pastor Hill emphasized on the need to give thanks to God always saying there was no small blessing from God.

The thanksgiving service featured special prayers for Chief Kingsley Esiso and his family as well as for the PDP members in Sapele.
