Authorities of the Uvwie Local Government in Delta state on Monday directed the owner of the petrol tanker that crushed the ten pupils on the NPA Expressway opposite the Army Barracks, Effurun, to pay a deposit of five hundred thousand naira each for the medical treatment of the three surviving pupils of the Army Children School, Effurun.

Chairman of Uvwie Local Government, Honourable Ramson Onoyake disclosed this to newsmen after the Council’s security meeting which held at the secretariat, Effurun, to deliberate among others measures aimed at safeguarding the lives of the three hospitalised victims.

Those in attendance at the security meeting presided by Honourable Onoyake were the affected schools heads, representative of the Nigerian Police, Army 3 battalion, chiefs from Uvwie Kingdom, Uvwie Education Secretary, FRSC officials and other stakeholders.

After a heated arguement between the chairman, a delegation of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and other stakeholders, Honourable Onoyake then directed the owner of the truck to pay an initial deposit of 500,000 thousand to the various hospitalised pupils as part effort to ensure that they get proper treatment.

Onoyake frowned at the unremorseful attitude of the owner of the truck not to have visited the hospitalised pupils and therefore told the PTD and NUPENG delegates to ask the owner of the tanker to visit the hospitalised pupils on today Tuesday.

The Uvwie Council boss while responding to question on measures to avert future occurrences said that he will appeal to the state government to construct a pedestrian flyover by the army barracks and PTI junction.

Meanwhile, Uvwie Council Chairman, Honourable Ramson Onoyake, will today Tuesday, July 13 2021, pay a visit to the hospitalised pupils as well as the families of those that lost their children in the unfortunate incident of Thursday, July 8, 2021.
