In a decisive move that has cleared the air over leadership disputes, the Port Harcourt branch of Evwreni Clan Improvement Union (ECIU) has successfully elected a full Executive Committee (EXCO), putting an end to claims by rival factions.
The historic meeting took place on February 15, 2026, at the residence of Mr Samuel Ovedje in Oyigbo, Rivers State with most members and observers in attendance.
The session began with an opening prayer led by Mrs Mabel Obrikogho, setting a solemn tone for the critical decisions ahead.
The agenda was dominated by the dissolution of the previous EXCO, a motion moved by Mr Peter Obrikogho and unanimously supported and approved by the members of the branch who were in attendance.
Nomination and voting then proceeded for the new leadership positions.
The election results were unanimous, reflecting a consensus-driven approach: President: Chief Wilson Ufuoma Agbuke, Vice President: Mrs Patricia Ovwufeti, Secretary: Mr ThankGod Akpomiemie, Financial Secretary: Mrs Esther Mamudu, Treasurer: Mrs Mabel Obrikogho, Public Relations Officer: Mr Peter Obrikogho, Provost: Mr Obaro Ovwufeti. Mr Samuel Ovedje attended as anobserver and to ensure transparency.
Organizers emphasized that this authentic EXCO represents the full quorum of the Port Harcourt branch, warning against recognition of rival lists produced by the Abel/Ishaka faction, which failed to form a quorum and claimed that only two leadership positions were elected in a kangaroo manner, shamefully and hurriedly from their own election.
“This EXCO reflects the collective will and unity of the members. Attempts by outside groups and pressures to manipulate leadership are invalid and will not be recognised,” organisers stated.
The election closes a contentious chapter for the ECIU Port Harcourt branch and signals a renewed focus on transparency, full participation, and unity among the members.
