Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has been conferred with the “Most Outstanding Speaker and Humanitarian Champion” award by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
The award was presented to the Speaker in his office at the State Assembly Complex in Asaba by the NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladojo, accompanied by other national and zonal executive members of the association.
Comrade Oladojo said the honour was in recognition of Guwor’s unwavering commitment to quality education and the welfare of students in Delta State and across Nigeria.
He congratulated the Speaker and urged him to sustain his partnership with the student body to advance education nationwide, noting that the award was intended to encourage him to continue his impactful work.
Oladojo further commended Guwor for his resilience and consistent support for student causes, disclosing that his visit to Delta State formed part of a nationwide campus tour promised during his electioneering campaign.
In his response, Rt. Hon. Guwor reaffirmed his commitment to promoting youth participation in governance and leadership at all levels.
“Student leadership positions are vital training grounds for future leaders who must be prepared to take up responsibilities that shape the nation,” he stated.
“I stand as testimony that young people can provide effective leadership. As Speaker, I will continue to represent the voice and interests of Nigerian youths in the legislature,” Guwor added.
He commended the NANS leadership for the recognition and their statewide tour of higher institutions, urging them to avoid divisive politics and focus on unity, growth, and programmes that empower young people.
“NANS has not been doing so well in recent times, but I hope the present leadership will restore the vibrancy of the association,” Guwor remarked. “I will continue to do my best to make the younger generation proud, proving that when given opportunities, youths can excel.”
The highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of the award to the Speaker by the NANS President.
