It was an evening of solemn reflection, warmth, and tribute as The Lion, Dr Hilary Obi Ibegbulem, and his amiable wife, Mrs Evelyn Ibegbulem, received prominent Delta political leaders, Olorogun Fred Majemite and Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi at the family residence in Agbor during the Service of Songs on Thursday in honour of the late Elder Gilbert Okafor Ibegbulem (1935–2025).
The atmosphere was filled with emotions as family members, friends, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the nonagenarian patriarch, who was fondly described as a man of peace, discipline, and unwavering faith in God.
The Service of Songs featured heartfelt hymns, prayers, and tributes that captured Elder Ibegbulem’s life of selflessness and dedication to his family, community, and church.
Dr Hilary Ibegbulem warmly welcomed Olorogun Majemite, a notable lawyer and political stalwart, alongside Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi, a former member of the House of Representatives, expressing gratitude for their visit and show of solidarity during the period of mourning.
Speaking at the event, both Majemite and Awhinawhi extolled the virtues of the late Elder Ibegbulem, describing him as a devout Christian and a moral compass whose exemplary life continues to inspire those who knew him.
They also commended Dr Ibegbulem for upholding his father’s values of humility, service, and commitment to humanity.
The Service of Songs attracted several dignitaries from within and outside Delta State, including political associates, traditional leaders, clergy, and members of the Ibegbulem family, who came together to celebrate the remarkable life of the departed elder.
As the evening progressed, testimonies about Elder Ibegbulem’s kindness and quiet strength filled the air, painting a picture of a man who lived a life worthy of emulation.
His passing, though painful, was described as a glorious transition of a fulfilled man who left an enduring legacy of love and faith.
The Service of Songs marks the beginning of a series of funeral activities lined up to honour the late Elder Gilbert Okafor Ibegbulem, after a lifetime of dedication to family, community service, and spiritual devotion.
