The Ijaws of Delta State have restated their resolve to produce the next governor of the state come 2023.

In a New Year message, the Ijaws from Delta South Senatorial District vowed not to play second fiddle in the 2023 governorship seat of the state.

Chief Julius Babogha, GMD/CEO Babsfield Corporate Ventures, while addressing newsmen in Warri, said the Ijaws deserve the governorship seat come 2023 for purpose of equity and fairness.

Babogha maintained that the Ijaws cannot at all time play second fiddle to other ethnic nationalities and appealed to other ethnic groups in Delta to support the ljaws to produce the next governor.

He said; “The Ijaws have over time supported other tribes, Urhobo, Itsekiri and now Anioma to produce the governor of the state, and nothing is wrong if they reciprocate that kind gesture to the ljaws of Delta.

According to him, the Ijaws produce a greater percentage of the state resources, and it is necessary for them to also occupy the seat of power.

“The Ijaw people who produce the bulk of wealth for the state should also be allowed to taste the government power, and should not be treated as second fiddle in the state,” Babogha emphasized.

He said as the single second largest ethnic group in the state, they should be allowed to be politically relevant.

The entire Ijaw nation he hinted is standing behind Delta Ijaw people for the actualization of this dream.
