Forty-eight days after the demise of Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Clark, his family has announced Tuesday, May 13, 2025, for his burial.
The elder statesman and former Federal Commissioner for Information passed away at 97 on Monday, February 17, 2025, in Abuja.
His eldest son, Mr Penaowei Clark, made known the burial date and other arrangements today, Saturday, while briefing journalists on behalf of the family at the Kiagbodo country of Pa Clark at Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Among members of the Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town present during the briefing were the Pere of Ngbilebiri-Mien Kingdom, Kiagbodo, HRM Prince Samuel Akpomiemie Fuludu, Ogiogio II, Prof. Collins Clark, head of the Clark family, and the second son of the late elder statesman, Chief Ebikeme Clark.
The burial activities will commence on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, with a Lecture at the NAF Conference Centre & Suite, Abuja, beginning at 11am.
Thursday, May 8, 2025, Valedictory Session at Senate Chambers by 11am.
Day of Tribute has been slated for Friday, May 9, 2025, at the NAF Conference Centre & Suites, Abuja, starting at 3pm.
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, a Wrestling Contest in his honour will be held at Yenagoa, and later that day, a Service of Songs will take place at the St. James’ Anglican Church, Asokoro, on number 39, Haile Selassie Street, Asokoro, Abuja, beginning at 5pm.
Sunday, May 11, 2025, will be for Boat Regatta, Port Harcourt Masquerade, Candlelight Memorial: Yenagoa, Kiagbodo, while the one holding at Abuja will take place at No. 43, Haile Selassie Street, Asokoro, Abuja, from 7pm to 8pm.
Monday, May 12, 2025, Commendation Service, 8am, at National Christian Centre, Abuja, with Valedictory Court Session holding simultaneously at High Court of Justice, Warri, Delta State by 10am.
10:30am Body departs from Abuja to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State
1:30-2:30pm Commendation Service at Ijaw House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State
2:30pm Body departs to Warri, Delta State
6:30-7pm Lying in state at No. 5, Swamp Road, Warri, Delta State
7:30pm Body departs to Kiagbodo Town, Delta State
Service of Songs and all-night vigil at Kiagbodo Town, Delta State
Tuesday, May 13, 2025, 10am-10:30am Lying in state at Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo Town, Delta State.
10:30-11am, Commendation Service at Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, Delta State, 11am Funeral service, 1pm Reception and 5pm Internment which will be followed by All-night vigil.
The burial activities will be climaxed on Sunday, May 18, 2025, with a Thanksgiving Service.
Pa Clark born May 25, 1927, at Erhuwaren in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, was until his death the leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).
