Chief Sunday Odogu Okpurhe has emerged as the Ovie-Elect of Mosogar Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Okpurhe, a retired Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs and Exercise was on Saturday, June 18, 2022, formally declared the Ovie-Elect of Mosogar Kingdom at a meeting of the Ovie-In-Council led by the Otota of the Kingdom, Chief Ighoyota Amori, after the Uduaka ruling house and the selection committee presented their various reports which affirmed Chief Okpurhe as the winner.
He defeated four other aspirants for the Ovieship: Chief Ogheneovo Columbus Akporokah, Chief Abraham Bobor, Chief Omonigho Ogbakpah and Chief Richard Edidjana.
The Otota of Mosogar Kingdom, Chief Amori made the announcement during a meeting of the Ovie-In-Council held at the Palace.
The Ovie-In-Council through the office of the Otota of Mosogar Kingdom as approved by the council, inaugurated a 20-member selection and 9-member Screening Committees on June 11, 2022, to select and screen the five aspirants who signified interest in the Ovieship, according to the guidelines of crowing a new king as stipulated in the gazette of Mosogar Kingdom.
The Chairman of the Selection Committee, Chief S. Darocha Oki submitting the report of his committee noted that all the other four (4) Aspirants in the spirit of oneness and unity of Mosogar Kingdom, unanimously agreed on Chief Sunday Odogu Okpurhe to be the next Ovie-Elect of Mosogar Kingdom.
Receiving the report, Chief Amori commended the Committee for doing a thorough and great job and appreciated all the other aspirants for willingly speaking with one voice in the interest of the growth and development of Mosogar Kingdom.
Announcing the new Ovie-Elect, the Otota noted that his appellation would be His Royal Majesty, Sunday Odogu Okpurhe, Uduaka the Ist, the Ovie of Mosogar Kingdom.
The Ovie-Elect is a graduate of the University of Lagos, B.Sc Sociology, who worked and retired as Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs and Exercise.
All other processes for the final presentation and crowning of the new King to the state government will now commence and the date for his coronation will be announced in due time.
