Dr. Hilary Obi Ibegbulem, the influential aide to the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, is mourning the loss of his father, Elder Gilbert Ibegbulem.
On Friday, Dr. Hilary, accompanied by his brother, Franklin Ibegbulem, arrived at their country home in Ute-Okpu community, Ika North-East Local Government Area, Delta State.
In line with cultural tradition, they formally informed their kinsmen of their father’s passing, marking the commencement of a four-day traditional funeral rite in honour of the late patriarch.
The community warmly received the bereaved family and immediately commenced customary rites for the respected elder, fondly known as Papa Gilbert.
As the rites began, Dr. Hilary welcomed several dignitaries on condolence visits. Notably, his principal and political leader, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, paid a visit to the Ute-Okpu residence.
The former governor offered words of solace and prayed for the peaceful repose of Papa Gilbert’s soul, commending his legacy and the values he instilled in his children.
Also among the sympathisers was Dr. Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the Delta State Government, who visited to express his condolences.
He offered words of encouragement to Dr. Hilary and his family, praying that the soul of Elder Gilbert Ibegbulem rest in eternal peace.
In a similar vein, Venerable Pat Okoh of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Boji-Boji Owa, visited the family to provide spiritual comfort.
He led prayers for the Ibegbulem family and committed the departed soul into God’s eternal care.
The passing of Elder Gilbert Ibegbulem has drawn sympathy and solidarity from across Delta State, with many acknowledging the impactful life he lived and the distinguished family legacy he leaves behind.
