The virtues of one of Urhobo foremost business moguls, late Chief Wilson Tsowhora Odibo, were brought to the fore as the Elders Group of Ogunu Golf Resort Warri on Friday, April 8, 2022, organised the 2nd edition of the Chief W. T. Odibo Memorial Golf Classic at the lush green of Ogunu Golf course, Warri in Delta State.
The tournament which was part of events to celebrate the 21st memorial anniversary of Chief W. T Odibo attracted top golfers and veterans from across Nigeria.
Age was no barrier as top golfers from Warri, Sapele, Asaba, Benin, and Lagos converged on the Ogunu Golf Resort Warri for the 2nd edition of Chief W. T. Odibo Memorial Golf Classic.
The uniquely dressed golfers defied the searing heat as they navigated through 18 Holes, swinging and putting to claim bragging rights and prizes up for grabs.
After a pulsating round on the course, the golfers moved to the clubhouse where the results were collated and winners announced.
Ambassador Sunny Braimah, who carded 68, emerged the overall winner of the Chief W. T. Odibo Memorial Golf Classic, confining Ochuko Orogun, who also carded 68, to the runners-up spot.
Prizes were also awarded for the Longest Drive, Nearest to the pin, super veterans, and guests categories amidst dancing and celebration.
One of the sons of late Chief Wilson Tsowhora Odibo, Elegbete Moses Odibo, who also doubles as the Vice Chairman of the Elders Group of Ogunu Golf Resort Warri, thanked his members for honouring his late father who he described as a perfect gentleman.
Wife of late Chief Wilson Tsowhora Odibo, Chief Emily Odibo, his other sons including the Otota of Udu Kingdom, Chief Sam Odibo, the current Federal Commissioner representing Delta State in the Nigeria Population Commission, NPC, Sir Richard Odibo, and Chief Bayo Odibo, described their patriarch as a great icon who was a father to many.
For their part, the Chairman, Elders Group of Ogunu Golf Resort Warri, Ambassador Sunny Braimah, the oldest golfer in Delta State, Okakuro Moses Asini, Chief Peter Asagba, Captain and Lady Captain of Ogunu Golf Resort Warri, Peters Omaruaye and Ochuko Orogun eulogized late Chief Wilson Tsowhora Odibo for his philanthropy and peaceful nature.
They also commended the Elders Group of Ogunu Golf Resort Warri for putting up a befitting golf classic in memory of the late Urhobo icon.
The high point of the event was the dedication of a memorial golf course bench donated by the family of late Chief Wilson Tsowhora Odibo on Hole 17 of the Ogunu Golf course by Reverend Father Oghenejode Abaka.
