The heroic tanker driver, who averted a major petroleum fire disaster at the weekend in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Mr Ejiro Otarigho has been honoured by the Delta State Government.
Mr Otarigho accompanied by his wife, Augustina was at the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) where he was presented with a letter of commendation, plague and a cheque of two million naira.
The SSG Chief Patrick Ukah made the presentation on behalf of the government and people of Delta State, disclosing that but for the national assignment the state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa would have personally made the presentation.
Ukah stated that the state government was happy with the patriotism shown by Mr Ejiro Otarigho in saving lives and property in Agbarho, stressing that Ejiro exhibited the heroism in a new Delta being championed by the present administration.
He named Mr Otarigho a youth ambassador in the state, explaining that what he did needed to be inculcated in the lives of the younger generation.
The SSG also disclosed that Mr Otarigho will be listed on the protocol list in the state.
Chief Ukah explained that the commendation letter was to convey the state government’s deep appreciation for the heroic tanker driver, saying that he saved the state from mourning and paying compensation to families who would have lost their lives.
While the plague is for prosperity that is expected to be seen even by generations yet unborn.
The SSG commended the wife, Mrs Augustina Otarigho for making the home peaceful.
The Commissioner, Ministry of Oil and Gas Prince Emmanuel Agbadugba, who spoke in an interview said Mr Otarigho’s action was unique and should be commended for his love for others.
In his reaction, the heroic tanker driver, Ejiro Otarigho expressed appreciation to the Delta State government for honouring, saying that government action shows that it is good to be selfless in life.
The presentation ceremony was witnessed by some top government functionaries in the state.
