Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Emeka Nwaobi has assured of partnership with women journalists in Delta State.
The lawmaker stated this during a courtesy visit by the Executive of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Delta State Chapter led by its chairperson, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo.
Nwaobi expressed satisfaction with the aims and objectives of NAWOJ which include women’s advocacy, girl child rights and good governance.
The lawmaker disclosed that he is passionate about enlightenment campaigns on the education of the girl child as most female children became exposed to various ills in society in the face of hard times.
While assuring the Executives of NAWOJ of his partnership with the body in its enlightenment campaign scheduled for the 2024 World Malaria Day in Aniocha North Local government area, the majority leader, commended NAWOJ for the initiative and advocacy for the protection of the girl child.
Earlier in her remarks, the chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Delta State Chapter, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo solicited the majority leader’s support in partnering with the association in her programs for the year.
Unobunjo while intimating the Majority Leader the objectives of NAWOJ also appealed for support from him on the Association’s plan to make him a patron of women journalists in Delta State.
She commended Hon Nwaobi for appointing the former scribe of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State Council, and gender-friendly Comrade, Patrick Ochei as his Principal Secretary.
